What is a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA)?
A Simple Guide for NDIS Participants and Support Coordinators
If you're working with the NDIS, you've probably heard the term “Functional Capacity Assessment” or FCA. But what exactly is it - and who needs one?
At Good Days Health, we deliver FCAs across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, and the Gold Coast for participants aged 9 - 65. Here’s what you need to know.
What is a Functional Capacity Assessment? A Functional Capacity Assessment is an occupational therapy report that helps the NDIS understand what supports you need to live your life.
It covers:
What you can and can’t do day to day
How your disability impacts your function
What support or equipment may help
An FCA is often used:
During plan reviews
When your needs change
To support applications for additional funding
What’s Included in the Report? Our FCAs include:
A clear summary of daily living abilities
OT recommendations for supports, therapies, or assistive tech
Evidence-based rationale tied to NDIS language and goals
All reports are written with plan managers and NDIS reviewers in mind - concise, structured, and ready for submission.
Who is it For? We work with:
Adults and teens (9 - 65)
NDIS participants with physical or psychosocial disabilities
Clients seeking support to build independence, improve function, or justify funding
We also work closely with support coordinators, GPs, and allied health teams to streamline the process.
What Happens After I Book? You or your coordinator will:
Fill out a referral form
We'll contact you within 1 business day to book in time for the assessment
An OT will visit you at home (or via telehealth)
You’ll receive a detailed FCA report in the agreed timeframe
